A French how to play video & Crazy Gift Race round 3 results!
over 4 years ago – Fri, Oct 11, 2019 at 02:06:01 AM

Dear backers,

after unna's Spanish video, we have another language-related treat, this time for our French-speaking backers: an how to play video by Professeur Board Game! You can watch it here below!

Please note that the copy of the game is still a prototype: the look and shape of some of the components will be different in the final product (we are looking at you, tiny coin-like first player token).

In other news, today we surpassed 2000 backers, another important campaign milestone! Also, at the current pace it seems that our next stretch goal, two additional Magic cards to add to your arsenal of race-fixing trickeries, will be unlocked later today! Keep up the good work everyone: share our campaign on your social media and help us spread the fever even further!

And now, it's time for yet another Crazy Gift Race update! The finish line is approaching, but no unicorn has crossed it just yet. The race is still extremely close, and the competition for the final victory is fiercer than ever! Let's take a detailed look at what happened:

The Movement card of this round confirmed a few trends, but also reserved some surprises. Cinnamon Carmen's bad luck goes on: despite having the best odds, she only moved forward 2 spaces once again. Frankie Flakes, instead, took advantage of his good odds and moved forward 3 spaces, tightening his grip on the first position. El Sparko Dorado, on the other hand, only moved forward 2 spaces, starting to lag a bit behind. Melody Sweet also only moved forward 2 spaces: her chances to win the race are getting slimmer at this point. In a sudden and surprising breath of pride, Hilda Rainbowbreaker moved forward 3 spaces, catching up with the Melody: the green sweetie may be facing some tough competition next round! Finally, Duke Rodolfo didn't replicate his outstanding performance from the previous round and only moved forward 2 spaces, but he is still in second position and just one space behind the race leader. The purple vain's bad odds will be crucial next round: he's been lucky until now, but will this trend go on? Only time will tell.

Let's move to your Sprint Votes: for the third round in a row, Frankie obtained the most votes. El Sparko was second and not very far from the brown real unicorn. Even closer to the yellow blaze we have Duke Rodolfo, whose popularity really seems to firmly be on the rise as he only gathered a handful of votes less than El Sparko... yet he didn't obtain manage to tie with him this time, so he won't be sprinting this round. Your votes awarded a sprint to Frankie Flakes and El Sparko Dorado, with Frankie keeping a slim margin over El Sparko, who in turn overtook Rodolfo, pushed back to the third position... or not?

We would call the results of the Slow Down Votes of this round surprising, if the same thing hadn't been happening in the previous rounds, too: with 35% of preferences, the unicorn to be slowed down is once again... Frankie Flakes! The sprint bonus he was awarded by the Sprint Votes has been effectively canceled: he definitely has a lot of supporters, but he also seems to have a lot of backers who really don't want to see him sprint!

So, here's the status of the race after the second round, comprehensive of bonuses and penalties:

The finish line is in sight, but it may very well happen that no unicorn will be able to reach it, should a "slow" Movement card come up next time... will the next round be the last one? Will Frankie Flakes manage to grab his first victory, or will be he second (or worse) once again? El Sparko Dorado also has great chances to grab the final victory and won't surely make his life easy! On his part, will Duke Rodolfo keep the pace of the two race leaders, or will his bad odds finally strike him down? Will Hilda Rainbowbreaker keep her momentum going, or will Melody Sweet strike back and avoid being overtaken? Finally, will poor Cinnamon Carmen's bad luck come to an end? Her last position despite having the best odds is not encouraging...

The new voting rounds start NOW! Don't forget to submit your SLOW DOWN votes on our website, and please post your SPRINT votes/comments on this update, NOT on the main campaign page, and NOT on any of the previous updates. As you should already know by now, Sprint votes posted on the main campaign page and/or on the previous updates will be invalid and WON'T BE COUNTED. We repeat: post your Sprint votes on THIS UPDATE ONLY!

Until next time!

Crazy Gift Race #3: round 2 results!
over 4 years ago – Thu, Oct 10, 2019 at 02:00:00 AM

Dear backers,

as we mentioned yesterday, the additional Contract card for the Fairy clan was indeed unlocked not long after we posted our previous update! The next stretch goal is not that far away, and we'll soon start seeing the effects of the final rush that usually triggers a few days before the end of the campaign. Exciting times ahead!

We have exciting times to share with you right now, too! Another surprising card drawn from the Movement deck, mixed some left-field results of your SPRINT and SLOW DOWN votes, produced another thrilling race round! It's a very, very close race!

Instead of slowing down, as we were kinda expecting, Duke Rodolfo accelerated!

Frankie Flakes finally took advantage of his good odds, and moved forward 3 spaces. Duke Rodoldo moved forward 3 spaces, too, with another surprising display of athletic performance.  El Sparko Dorado and Melody Sweet didn't manage to keep the same pace they had in the first round, and they only moved forward 2 spaces, just like Cinnamon Carmen (stricken by bad luck again... she has the best odds, and yet she only moved forward 2 spaces for two consecutive rounds) and Hilda Rainbowbreaker (whose current odds are surely not helping her achieve performance more in line with a former race winner). The big surprise of this round, regarding the Movement card, then, was Rodolfo, poised to take the lead despite his very bad odds.

Speaking of your Sprint votes, Frankie obtained the most votes once again, but with a very thin margin over... El Sparko Dorado AND Duke Rodolfo, who were tied for the second most votes! That's right, we have 3 sprinting unicorns this round! This cannot happen in a real game of Unicorn Fever (as there are only 2 dice in the game), but this is the magic of popular votes! If you've made your math, you should know that this means Duke Rodolfo should be the lone leader of this race... but there's more!

In another surprising turn of events, for the second round in a row, one of the most popular unicorns for the Sprint vote was also the most "popular" one in the Slow Down vote: with a hefty 35% of preferences, Duke Rodolfo is also the unicorn you have decided to slow down this round! Will this become a trend? Only time will tell, but what is sure is that the outcome of the Slow Down votes prevented Rodolfo from overtaking Frankie and El Sparko!

So, here's the status of the race after the second round, comprehensive of bonuses and penalties:

What a close race! Frankie Flakes finally seems to have a good chance at winning this race, but so does El Sparko Dorado, who has both relatively good odds and the apparent support of many backers just like the brown real unicorn! Duke Rodolfo's popularity seems to be on a rise too, but will his bad odds start to take their toll on the purple vain's performance? Will Melody Sweet get rid of her "mid-field" curse? On her part, Cinnamon Carmen seems to be cursed with bad luck once again... will the orange spice start to take advantage of her good odds (the best of the bunch), and will she get back the favor of the crowds? Finally, will Hilda Rainbowbreaker manage to get out of the shroud of mediocrity that has been haunting her ever since she won the first race?

The new voting rounds start NOW! Don't forget to submit your SLOW DOWN votes on our website, and please post your SPRINT votes/comments on this update, NOT on the main campaign page, and NOT on any of the previous updates. As you should already know by now, Sprint votes posted on the main campaign page and/or on the previous  updates will be invalid and WON'T BE COUNTED. We repeat: post your Sprint votes on THIS UPDATE ONLY!

Until next time!

Crazy Gift Race #3: round 1 results!
over 4 years ago – Wed, Oct 09, 2019 at 02:39:22 AM

Dear backers,

it seems our pace has accelerated a little bit. We are already quite close to our next stretch goal, an additional Contract card for the Fairy clan. It may very well be unlocked before the end of today! In the meantime... it's time for the first update of the third Crazy Gift Race! It seems we will have the closest racing we've seen so far! 🏁

The first Movement card of this race reserved a first surprise!

The two midfielders, El Sparko Dorado and Melody Sweet, took an early lead by moving forward 3 spaces. All of the other unicorns moved forward 2 spaces... slightly disappointing for Cinnamon Carmen and Frankie Flakes, but not a bad start for Duke Rodolfo, considering he has the worst odds and his movement range can get much worse than this on the next cards... anyhow, so far, so good for the purple vain. Bad news for Hilda Rainbowbreaker though, she keeps struggling to get back to her former glory.

The results of your Sprint Votes have been quite surprising, too: Frankie Flakes gathered the most votes (as was easily predictabile, given his popularity in the previous races), but Duke Rodolfo came in as a close second! Hilda and El Sparko also obtained a good amount of votes, with Melody far behind and Carmen really lagging with only 3 votes. The two unicorns sprinting this round are Frankie and Rodolfo! This would allow both of them to catch up with El Sparko and Melody... but wait, there's more.

The final surprise of this round came from the results of your Slow Down Votes: with 26% of the votes, the unicorn to be slowed down by your negative magic was... Frankie Flakes! What a twist! This means that only Duke Rodolfo takes advantage of the Sprint bonus this round, catching up with the race leaders! Of all possible results of the Slow Down votes, this was the last we would have expected to see, you really took us by surprise.

So, here's the status of the race after the first round, comprehensive of bonuses and penalties:

It was a really exciting start, and we can't wait to see how this race will proceed next round! It was another tough start for Frankie Flakes, he will be forced to catch up once again... will he have better luck next round? Are Cinnamon Carmen days of glory and popularity really over? Can El Sparko Dorado and Melody Sweet finally get their chance at glory? Will Hilda Rainbowbreaker get back in shape and to her former glory? Finally, it seems a change of gift was enough for Duke Rodolfo to win over your hearts, but will it be enough to overcome his bad odds too?

The new voting rounds starts NOW!

New stretch goals! A new Crazy Gift Race, with new rules!
over 4 years ago – Tue, Oct 08, 2019 at 02:51:02 AM

Dear backers,

over the weekend the second "stretch goal" unicorn, Emily Ravenhoof, has been unlocked! Huzzah! We also revealed our next stretch goals: 1 additional Contract card for the Fairy clan, 2 new Magic cards to add to your arsenal of race-fixing trickeries, and a whole new Contract card type: 6 cards of the Witch clan! With a bit of luck, we will be able to unlock all of these before the final days of the campaign, where we expect to pace to accelerate again after the usual "slow" period in the middle of all kickstarter campaigns. And we still have a few surprises left!

As promised, we are also starting a third Crazy Gift Race! Once again, the rules for this race will be different. We will keep the odds of the unicorns into account, as we did for the previous race, but this time we will draw a Movement card from the deck each round, just like in a regular game of Unicorn Fever. Each unicorn will move forward the amount of spaces indicated on the row of the card corresponding to their odds (higher numbers are more probable to appear for the better odds). This will give you a closer idea of what an actual Unicorn Fever race feels like!

This is an example of a Movement card, with the Odds of each unicorn to the right.

In the example above, Cinnamon Carmen would move 4 forward spaces, Frankie Flakes would move forward 3 spaces, and all of the other unicorns would move forward 2 spaces. High numbers are more probable to appear on better odds / topmost rows, but that's not always the case, and it may very well happen that theorically "slower" unicorns will move faster than the favorite ones in one or more rounds!

But we don't want to leave you all out of the fun, of course! You will still be able to vote for the unicorns, and not only once... but twice! There will be "Sprint votes" and "Slow Down votes". As for the previous Crazy Gift Races, each day you will be allowed to post 1 comment and express your support for one of the unicorns. These will be the "Sprint votes". Each round, the two unicorns with the most votes will sprint forward 1 additional space (no dice rolls and "Gods of Sprint" this time)! Additionally, you will also be able to place "Slow Down votes" in a special poll on our website! Each round, the unicorn with the most votes on this special poll will move forward 1 space less... so you can slow one of the unicorns down, in addition to making and make two of them go faster! This will replicate the feeling of playing negative Magic cards... well, sort of. But it will be fun!

This is the actual artwork from one of the negative Magic cards from the game.

Here is a quick reference of the current ranking of the unicorns (based on the results of the previous race), and which will be the gift you'll get if they win:

  • Cinnamon Carmen (Fancy Custom Stickers)
  • Frankie Flakes (Unicorn Circlet)
  • El Sparko Dorado (Cheering Flag)
  • Melody Sweet (Custom Round Pin)
  • Hilda Rainbowbreaker (Rainbow Lanyard Neck Strap)
  • Duke Rodolfo (Duke Rodolfo Poster)

As you may have noticed, Duke Rodolfo insisted to change his gift. If he will win, you will receive a wonderful Duke Rodolfo poster! Carmen, as usual, was very nice and agreed to take his previous gift, the fancy custom stickers, as her new gift proposal.

(ARTWORK NOT FINAL)

As with the other crazy gift races, you will have time to post your votes/comments until we publish the next race update the following day. At the end of the race, the winning unicorn will once again get to decide which will be the third gift you will all receive!

Cinnamon Carmen starts with the favor of the odds but with backers now in control of the Sprint dice and a "slow down" penalty each round, things will be more unpredictable than ever. Will Frankie Flakes finally manage to get his first win? Will El Sparko Dorado still be a challenger for the podium? Will Duke Rodolfo obtain a better performance (and maybe a bit of support from our backers)? Hilda Rainbowbreaker and Melody Sweet won't stand by and watch for sure... are you ready? The third Crazy Gift Race starts NOW!

On your marks, get set... GO! 🦄 🌈 🏁

Crazy Gift Race #2: round 3 results!
over 4 years ago – Fri, Oct 04, 2019 at 10:00:12 PM

Dear backers,

we are in the middle of the "death valley", the extremely slow period in the middle of every kickstarter campaign. Despite this, we are slowly but steadily approaching our next stretch goal, the additional unicorn miniature Emily Ravenhoof! Without further ado, let's move to today's Crazy Gift Race update!

As was easy to imagine, your votes were mostly focused on Cinnamon Carmen and Frankie Flakes this round. They were closer than ever, with Frankie gaining just 1 vote less than Carmen! Alas, once again, his odds slowed him down, while Carmen received again many more votes than necessary. With the orange spice moving forward 4 spaces, and the brown "real" unicorn moving only 3, it's an easy victory for Cinnamon Carmen! You will all receive her gift, a magnetic bottle opener decorated with her portrait!

Frankie ranked in second place for the second race in a row. All the other unicorns only managed to move forward 1 space this round (as they all received very few votes), and they ended quite far away from the leading couple. El Sparko Dorado ranked in third place (the same result he achieved during the first race). Melody Sweet and Hilda Rainbowbreaker, with a little help from the Gods of Sprint, ranked in fourth and fifth position respectively. The poor Duke Rodolfo ranked in last position... and believe us, he's furious. He is running around our office, nervously mumbling about changing his gift for the next race, advocating for a change of rules, and lamenting the lack of appreciation for his "unbelievable beauty". We are afraid we will have to grant him what he asks, or our weekend will be a nightmare.

We'll try giving Duke Rodolfo lots of compliments on his scented mane to calm him down. The next Crazy Gift Race will start on monday, with new gifts and new rules! Have a nice weekend!

Sincerely,

the Horrible team
